Top day sailing today. Woke up for a 10.00 am start but fell asleep again so a little late – heard it was well rough at 10. Big sea on the outside making gybing hard for me. I was underpowered all day on 6.2 / 115L Fanatic freewave which seem to have a lot less volume than 115!
Best sea for me was heading towards kite zone where all the waves were separate just like El Medano without the blue water. Most people were on 6.0 or less but it wasn’t as windy as it looked and with Strawberry rigging the same size as me (6.0) I should have know better.
The sea went much better later by 2.0 ish with pure rolling waves all separate - but the wind was dropping all the time and I needed 7.0M so packed up. Paul Strawberry and a few others milked it to the end, but everyone had a great time in the huge swells.
Remarkably Roger who had a double knee replacement and a hernia op, decided he would sail today, on one of the biggest seas this year using a Screamer / 5.7! He survived and his heading off to Cornwall!
Hope for us all yet….
